What's happening in my classroom?

We have been looking at Place Value, (as this is one point in Naplan that the students seem to have problems with). The students rolled the dice and came up with a number, they then made this number in their abacus (made from marshmallows and toothpicks) and fruit loops.

In Writer's workshop we have been working on Procedural Writing and completed this tasks from a great product I brought on TPT-

We also are invetigating ways in which we can relax including mediation, exercise, artistic activities ( mandalas and colouring in). One of these activities also included a lesson on warm and cool colours.

Daily 5

I have decided to try and introduce the Daily 5 into my classroom, this program I feel not only helps the students with their Literacy skills but also helps me on track too. So far so good, I have completed an anchor chart each day for each part of Daily 5 ( I will post pictures this week)

Beginning of the year

Well its been a couple of weeks into the beginning of the school year here in Australia.
I have a great bunch of kids in my class, about half I have taught before when they were in Grade 1 a couple of years ago.
We started off the year with activities all about getting to know each other, one of the tasks that they completed was a silhouette of themselves with a a couple of clues to see if we could guess who they are. They turned out great!
